Justicia is a social enterprise operating as a not-for-profit company set up in 1985. The company exists to promote trade justice and seeks to achieve a small part of this by promoting and and selling fairly traded goods while giving work experience opportunities to those seeking employment. We sell a wide variety of fairly traded goods including a greater variety of fairly traded food than you will see in any shop in Bolton. However, we specialise in fairly traded hand crafted products from small producers in the developing world. Our customers tell us that our shop is a delight with unique gifts available for special occasions as well as practical items of houseware for everyday use. We also carry a range of locally made eco-friendly items alongside a strong range of Ecover household products.
The day-to-day running of the shop is in the hands of two managers appointed by the Board assisted by a team of dedicated volunteers.
We supply goods on a sale-or-return basis to people willing to carry fair trade into other organisations such as faith groups, schools and community groups. We will also run stalls and supply speakers for events which promote fair trade.
We are a founder member of BAFTS, the British Association for Fair Trade Shops, and use their list of accredited fair trade suppliers. BAFTS criteria go beyond fair prices to include social and environmental considerations and gender equality. For more information on BAFTS see www.bafts.org.uk.
BAFTS membership enables the shop to stock a wide range of fairly traded goods that are not at present eligible for the fairtrade mark, such as many foodstuffs, jewellery, ornaments, and musical instruments etc. We also stock household goods which are environmentally friendly, and cards and stationery produced by fair trade companies such as Traidcraft..
